I have used Open Office in the past, but always went back to MS Office. I tried the newest version out and I did like it. It allows me to do most everything that MS Office does. I did have some Excel Add-ins for work specific imports of data that would not load, but I think this is because of how they are written more than a short coming of Open Office. I had a good time looking through the extensions for Open Office located at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Extensions. There are hundreds of extensions to download and try out. I am much more comfortable with MS Office, but I did not have any problems creating an APA style word (Writer) document, an Excel (Calc) style worksheet, and a quick Power Point (Impress). I was able to take documents written in MS Office and convert them to Open Office documents with no errors. If it weren't for the extensions that I need for work not being able to load I would try this out a lot more at home. I will keep working on the extensions and report back.
